r.e.think energy: taking a fresh approach
We are the energy mix experts, and are already involved in the exploitation of a wide range of renewable technologies – our activities extending across countries and continents. Working in partnership with our customers, we have already brought approximately 2,000 MW online.
We aim to promote an increase in the utilisation of renewable energy and to set standards. We are fortunately placed, as the size of our company, our global network of sales outlets and the financial backing of our parent company, BayWa AG, together with our expertise in each of our business sectors, put us in a good position to achieve this. Because we r.e.think energy!
BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH – a wholly owned subsidiary of the BayWa AG concern – is responsible as a holding company, via the BayWa r.e. Group, for all of the concern's renewable energy business. We are a player in the wind, solar and bioenergy sectors worldwide. Our business activities range from project development and realisation, photovoltaics wholesaling and energy trading of electricity from renewable sources, through to consulting services. When it comes to service, we cover the entire spectrum of technical and commercial plant maintenance.
BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH is jointly led by Managing Directors Matthias Taft (Chairman), Günter Haug and Harald Wilbert
Matthias Florian Taft (Chairman)
Matthias Taft has a degree in Process Engineering from the Technical University of Munich and a degree in Engineering Management from the University of Hagen. He held management roles in various engineering consultancies, including ETAPLAN, for ten years. He played a leading role in the merger of four companies, ETAPLAN GmbH amongst them, to form RENERCO Renewable Energy Concepts AG. From 2003 onwards, Matthias Taft established the development, turnkey construction and operations management of wind energy and photovoltaic projects – both on the technical and commercial front – as core business areas of RENERCO AG. Here, first as a board member and later as chairman, he assumed responsibility for all matters concerning finance, investor relations and all strategic decisions. In January 2013, he became a Managing Director of BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH. Matthias Taft maintains responsibility for project business, strategy, law and corporate finance. Since April 2015, he has also been a member of the Management Board of BayWa AG and is responsible for the energy side of the business (conventional and renewable), as well as all international investments.
Günter Haug studied Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Applied Sciences, Esslingen. He worked as a photovoltaics sales engineer following his studies. In 1996, he joined MHH Solartechnik GmbH as a sales engineer, and in 2000 became Managing Director. Starting with just five employees, he turned the company into a nationwide photovoltaics wholesaler employing more than 100. Following the acquisition of MHH Solartechnik by BayWa r.e. in 2010, he became responsible for international expansion and management of the photovoltaics wholesale business. Since January 2013, Günter Haug has been a Managing Director of BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH. He is responsible for photovoltaics wholesaling, energy trading, marketing and IT.
Harald Wilbert studied Applied Economics at RWTH Aachen University. After taking his degree, he began his career in management accounting. Since 2004, he has consistently assumed general business responsibilities. In addition to gaining professional experience in industrial environments, he was also active for nine years in the conventional energy sector (natural gas). Since September 2013, Harald Wilbert has been a Managing Director of BayWa r.e. renewable energy GmbH. He is responsible for finance, HR and risk management, as well as bioenergy and services.
