Sale of two biomethane plants to Evergaz and Meridiam

to overview

BayWa r.e. has successfully sold the German biomethane plants in Pessin and Dessau to a joint venture comprising the French project developer and operator Evergaz and Paris-based long term developer and investor MERIDIAM.

The plants located in Brandenburg and Saxony-Anhalt each have an installed capacity of around 700 Nm³/h of biomethane; with the plant in Dessau having an electrical current capacity of 550 kW, and Pessin 400 kW. Since commissioning the plant in Dessau in November 2014 and the plant in Pessin in July 2015, the efficiency of both plants has steadily increased. Matthias Taft, Board Member of BayWa AG, responsible for the energy business, stressed: “Over the last one and a half to two years our biomethane experts have optimised operation of the biomethane plants step by step, displaying how to consistently achieve top yields. We are very pleased that we were now able to sell both plants to Evergaz and Meridiam.”

After the sale, BayWa r.e. will continue to guarantee the technical and commercial operation of the plants and remain responsible for raw materials management. This also secures a future, long-term collaboration with agricultural partners. The experts at BayWa r.e. will also take over the marketing of the electricity and biomethane generated.

The company has already completed over 30 biomethane plants in Germany and Europe, and BayWa r.e. recently commissioned a biomethane plant in the UK. Matthias Taft adds: “Despite challenging market conditions, BayWa r.e has solidified its position in the German bio-energy market and we will continue to remain active in this market segment with our expertise and know-how for years to come.”

Evergaz is an integrated operator specialized in the production of biogas and the development of its uses. The company develops, owns and operates a group of biogas plants.
