local case study
GermanyThe ground-mounted PV plant in Finsterwalde, Brandenburg was built in 2010 with a rated power of 39,8 MWp. Due to defective rear backsheets of the modules and the resulting short circuits, it produced only 60% of total power in 2022. After the replacement of the modules, the plant can provide full power again.
Project Type | Ground-mounted PV installation in Finsterwalde, Germany |
---|---|
Total Output | 39,8 MWp |
Modules | after Revamping: Longi and AE Solar, monocrystalline |
Inverters | Schneider Xantrex GT630E |
Mounting System | High quality solar mounting system manufactured by Kühling GmbH & Co. KG |
Output | 36 GWh/a year |
Business Area | Technical & Commercial Management, EPC for Revamping Works |
The problem:
The back foil of the installed modules dissolved and became permeable. The penetrating moisture caused short circuits, which led to inverter failures and caused high yield losses.
The challenge:
In order to carry out the revamping project as economically as possible, only the modules were to be replaced. Since the substructure is a slide-in system, the dimensions of the new modules could only deviate minimally. The matching module series is no longer manufactured.
The solution:
There are two manufacturers whose modules are compatible with the substructure system when special adapters are used. In addition, since the new modules are more efficient than the old ones, the required area is reduced by about one third - with the same rated power. New areas are created, e.g. for the production of even more solar energy!
