Solar park & Battery Storage System Deisenhausen
Project overview
The innovative combined PV project, with a large-scale battery storage system covers an area of approx. 19 hectares. Almost 34,000 modules generate up to 20 Millionen kWh of green electricity per year, depending on seasonal solar radiation. The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) has an installed capacity of 6.2 MW and a storage capacity of 20.7 MWh.
The amount of electricity generated corresponds to the average energy consumption of approx. 5,400 average households in Germany (with an annual consumption of approx. 3,695 kilowatt hours).
Since its commissioning we have continued to operate the Deisenhausen solar park as part of our Independent Power Producer (IPP) portfolio.

Financial participation according to § 6 EEG
As with other wind and solar farms, BayWa r.e. has made use of the opportunity to financially share the electricity feed-in revenues with the municipality according to § 6 EEG – in this case Deisenhausen.
Local value creation
We paid particular attention to allowing as many local stakeholders as possible to participate in the value creation created by the energy transition. We achieve this, for example, through cooperation with regional actors or the local awarding of services for green maintenance and sheep grazing.
Measures to promote biodiversity
A central component of the planning was the promotion of biodiversity. Numerous measures, such as deadwood and rootstocks for reptiles and small mammals, as well as colourful fallow land for the preservation of the skylark, were implemented at the edge of the Deisenhausen solar park.
Privacy protection and landscape integration
During the preliminary planning, care was taken to ensure that the PV system was well integrated into the landscape. For example, larger buffer zones to the adjacent forests on the north and south sides were planned, which are now used as compensation areas to maximise ecological benefits. In addition, a drainage trough on the northern area was restored after the construction works. It stops rainwater during heavy rainfall events and mitigates the cause of severe flooding, as has already occurred in the nearby district of Nordhofen in the past. The Deisenhausen Solar Park is surrounded by forest on several sides, creating a “natural“ privacy screen. The sides not surrounded by woodland will be planted with various shrubs and plants to provide privacy.
