- What is the advantage of BayWa r.e.'s citizen electricity tariff for residents?
The citizen electricity tariff offers residents of our wind farms a 10% price advantage over the local basic supply tariff - both in terms of the basic price and for up to 5,000 kWh per year on the variable unit price.
- Does the citizen electricity tariff apply to all BayWa r.e. wind farms?
If there is local interest, the citizen electricity tariff can be offered for all BayWa r.e. wind farms in Germany that go into operation after October 31, 2023. An extension to existing projects that are already in operation is currently not planned.
- Will the citizen electricity tariff also be offered during the development phase of wind energy projects?
No. The precindition is the commissioning and grid feed-in of the wind farm in whose vicinity we offer the citizen electricity tariff.
- In which radius around its projects does BayWa r.e. offer the citizen electricity tariff?
BayWa r.e. offers the citizen electricity tariff for residents living within a radius of 2,500 m around its wind farms. This corresponds to the radius defined by law for the optional participation of municipalities in the wind farm's earnings - which, by the way, is a standard feature for us ("affected municipalities" as defined in Section 6 of the Renewable Energy Sources Act). Contrary to the municipal participation, this limit is not fixed by law in the case of electricity tariffs for residents, so the perimeter can be extended to some degree if necessary. The final determination of eligible households will be project-based, pragmatic, and takes local interests into account.
- Are there lower or upper limits for electricity consumption in BayWa r.e.'s citizen electricity tariff?
There is no minimum purchase requirement. Since our citizen electricity offer is aimed at private residents of our wind farms, the discounted purchase is limited to a maximum of 5,000 kWh per year. Quantities in excess of this will be charged at the local basic utility tariff.
- Is the electricity offered by BayWa r.e. generated from renewable energies?
Yes. With the electricity tariff offered by BayWa r.e., we provide residents living near our wind farms with clean energy that comes primarily from BayWa r.e.'s wind and solar projects in Germany. If required, this is supplemented by other electricity from renewable sources, e.g. hydropower.
- Do I have to cancel my current electricity tariff if I want the citizen electricity tariff?
No. We will be happy to organize the switch for you. On our participation website, we will provide a simple online switch option in good time for the projects in which the citizen's electricity tariff is offered. All you have to do is provide us with your annual consumption, meter number, delivery address and your personal data. We will take care of the rest for you.
- Do I have to expect a supply interruption when switching to the citizen electricity tariff?
No. Of course, security of supply is guaranteed even if you switch from your current supplier to the citizen electricity tariff.
- How long is the contract period?
There is no provision for premature termination of the discounted electricity purchase during the operating period of the wind farm on our part. The minimum contract period is one year. After that, the citizen electricity can be terminated at any time with a notice period of one month. If the contract is not terminated, the term is extended by one month at a time.
- Doesn't the wind farm produce much cheaper electricity? Why is the cost advantage only 10%?
The price of electricity is made up of various elements. The cost of generating the electricity only makes up about 25% of the price, the rest are charges, levies and taxes that are shown on your bill. We are working on apolitical level to ensure that these components are reduced in the future in the vicinity of wind farms, and we will then pass on any resulting price advantages to our electricity customers.
