The BayWa r.e. Power Solutions team has received the Mercedes-Benz Supplier Award in the sustainability category.
Following the motto of flexibility, efficiency, digitalisation and sustainability, the Mercedes-Benz Group is setting new standards in the production of its vehicles at Factory 56, the car factory of the future.
The rooftop installation developed by BayWa r.e. supplies 30% of Factory 56's electricity needs with green power. With 12,000 PV modules and a total output of more than 5.000 kWp, the photovoltaic installation is one of the largest in Germany and is thus considered a blueprint for future plants of the company worldwide.
Another special feature of the project is that the solar power is partly fed into a DC-DC combined system (direct current grid) with charging infrastructure and a Second Life storage system from the company with a capacity of 1.4 MW, which helps to improve energy efficiency throughout the production building.
Andrea Grotzke, Global Director of Energy Solutions at BayWa r.e. AG, comments: "We are very pleased to receive the Mercedes-Benz Supplier Award. This shows once again that our many years of experience, our know-how and our high-quality standards in the field of integrated energy solutions pay off. We are convinced that innovative projects such as the Factory 56 not only contribute to the success of the energy transition in Germany and beyond, but also serve as important role models for other companies."
Yvonne Bogner; Head of Sales Germany/Austria adds: "Receiving the Mercedes-Benz Supplier Award shows that BayWa r.e. is a strong, reliable partner in the field of sustainability. We constantly strive to innovate and develop our renewable energy systems to help our customers on their way to a CO2 neutral future with customized, integrated energy solutions."
